Tips To Merging Comfort Wear with Style

All photography by the talented Fiona Montagne

If you physically feel good in it, you'll wear it. Comfort and style can merge into a fabulous package, resulting in you looking polished and pulled together. Can I get an amen?!!f The yoga pants, tracksuits no longer get to claim "comfort" exclusively. A sweatshirt can be chic.  It comes down to how you pair these varied styles together. Here are my top tips for rocking comfort wear with a hefty dose of style. Paparazzi can snap your picture because I've got you covered ;)

Say hello to my little friend denim

Trust me, a pair of great fitting denim instantly makes an outfit looks more pulled together. I'm rocking a high-waisted straight leg cropped denim from Fancy Pants. High-waisted denim will change your life. The belly button is almost covered is probably what a binky feels like to a baby: safe and comforting ;) I paired it with a simple sweatshirt from Everlane and my favorite go-to in the shoe arsenal, ankle boots.

The little details matter

Casual wear should be fuss-free so I choose accessories to elevate what I'm wearing. This Clare V fanny pack is packing (tehe) so much COOL! It leaves me hands-free as I get through my day and it adds a little extra style to a simple outfit. The fishnet socks are another fun surprise. It takes little effort and makes comfy wear sassy.

High low mix

Blending casual wear with dressier styles gives the "I tried" look to an outfit. These Coach ankle boots can easily be dressed up or down. Their chic simple style lends a polished addition to my sweatshirt and jeans combo. This high low mix can be accomplished by wearing a streamlined wool coat, a lady-like bag or a dressy silk top with your distressed denim.

You are worth all the little effort that makes you look and feel damn good!

Simplifying Your Style Without Losing Your Sass

I hear you. You love simple, crisp lines that make you feel sharp, polished and effortlessly pulled together. Your heart does a pitter patter at the sight of color palettes that linger in the ivory, gray, white and black arena. I'm listening and I hear you. I certainly have simplified my style over the years in an effort to have less stuff and more of ONLY what I love. So here's a few tips for my peeps who want a more modern simple look but still want to display a healthy dose of their sass/ swag, personality ( you know what I mean).

Locate classics with attitude

I've said it before and I'll say it again: date the trends and marry the classics. Classics are those pieces that can withstand the test of time unlike that heavy bang phase I thought was so great in 94. We all learn ;) In finding these pieces, I look for those that have a little extra edge to them. For example an ivory silk blouse with a leather trim, high waisted pencil skirt in blush pink (YASS) or a minimalist trench with a blue pinstripe lining that brings a little happy to a rainy day.

Choose a WOW piece

Your outfit should have one piece of clothing that does the talking and the rest should just chill out like a good wingwoman.  The talking is this classic stripe button shirt that brings a whimsical dose of play with the embroidered detail in bright green. Come on! It makes me so happy! Paired with simple distressed jeans or you could pair it with dark wash denim. This allows your other more simple pieces to join the party and not look so womp womp womp ;)

Texture and dare I say, color is your friend

Adding elements of texture and color can allow your simply styles to stand on their own. It can be a featherweight cashmere sweater in powder blue or white button down with swiss dots. This allows your outfit to have dimension while still giving you the feel good vibes of a simplified style.

Style should always be about feeling great in what you wear and that means it needs to reflect who YOU are! Sending you a major hug and good vibes whilst keeping it simply ;)
